Why Natural and Organic?

Natural and organic products are the best choice for your skin and the environment.
Conventional products often contain harsh chemicals that can cause irritation, inflammation, and other skin problems. These chemicals can harm the environment by degrading the world we live in, polluting our waterways, and harming wildlife. By choosing natural and organic products, you are making the conscious choice to be kind to yourself, your pets, and the planet.

Why aren't all of the ingredients organic?

Our products are made with organic ingredients where possible; from waxes to butters to carrier oils and essential oils. There are some instances where it is physically impossible for an ingredient to be considered "organic." Why? -you may ask. Well, the source material may be difficult to control, meaning it cannot meet organic certification standards. In another instance, the material may not be farmed and may only be available as a wildcrafted, or "wild harvested" ingredient.

Scientifically, for something to be considered organic, it must contain a carbon atom. Within the realm of organic chemistry, you can have both organic natural and organic synthetic compounds.

Regarding the plants used in cosmetics, the USDA [United States Department of Agriculture] limits the usage of the word "organic" to strictly naturally [not synthetically] produced plants and compounds.

To be considered organic by the USDA, the land supporting the crops must not have had any synthetic or prohibited substances, such as those found in pesticides, insecticides, or food for livestock, that may have been used in the past 3 years. Additionally, the farmer, any handler of the goods, and the manufacturer must each be individually certified by the USDA.

The USDA understands that ingredients such as water and salt cannot be organic [they have no carbon atoms and were never alive], which is why these are permitted in organic products.

What is the A[paw]THECARY?

An apothecary for our beloved furry friends, of course!

ROCKSTAR APOTHECARY hopes to make a positive difference in the world by making natural a part of everyone's lifestyle-including our pet's. We started our A[paw]THECARY journey with the creation of THE [paw balm], an entirely vegan and cruelty-free paw balm.

Why was THE [paw balm] created?

Our founder [a vegan entrepreneur] noticed that her family dog had developed bald patches on her paws.
It did not take much investigating to learn that she had developed an unhealthy habit of licking her paws-to her own detriment.
Determined to improve her quality of life, our founder began researching various paw balms on the market.
Disappointed with the options available, our founder used her background in animal science and her love for cruelty-free, safe, and natural holistic solutions to continue her research, learning about both potentially toxic ingredients as well as wonderfully healthful plant-powered ingredients with purpose.

After rolling up her sleeves and putting her newfound knowledge to the test through experimentation, she arrived at THE [paw balm], which is packed with powerful synergized essential oils, and THE [paw balm] [unscented], which is better suited to our more sensitive furry friends—or both paws and noses—for when cold weather or unforeseen dryness strikes.

We are passionate about creating the best possible products by handpicking the best natural ingredients.
